Dan Soderberg, who leads the Neighborhood Historic Preservation Coalition has contacted the Historic Resources, Planning Division in the City’s Development Services Department to explain, “Clearly this building (City Deli) is 
eligible for historic status, if not on the register already. Making it into son of ‘The Range’ is simply unacceptable. Secretary of Interior Standards relating to like materials and original appearance must absolutely be adhered to. PLEASE, no free passes on this one.”
Soderberg is referring to the changes to made by The Range at their first Hillcrest location at 1263 University Avenue. Here’s some history…

The owner of this business blatantly ignored the permitting process and for over a year thumbed his nose at the City of San Diego. In fact, the stop work order was ignored and unpermitted work continued. The Range eventually moved to its present location 1220 University. Its last night in operation is scheduled for Saturday, August 24, 2013.
