This morning Uptown Planners and area councilmembers Toni Atkins and Kevin Faulconer sponsored a presentation of the Uptown Historic Survey draft that has been in the works for several years. The Recital Hall in Balboa Park was the location for the first in a series of forums. The results are important to all of Uptown, since it will provide a catalog of potentially historic homes and other buildings, which may help prevent demolitions of historic buildings and serve as a basis for several proposed historical districts. Information included a recommendation of four proposed thematic districts and 19 geographic districts.
The next step will be at the city’s Historic Resource Board on March 22. If approved, it then goes to City Council for approval/implementation. As SD’s first trolley line suburb and the original center of our gay community, should Hillcrest be identified as an Historic District?
