The February meeting of the Hillcrest Town Council (2/8/11) will feature a forum focused on solutions to address the city’s fiscal crisis with panelists City Councilmember Carl DeMaio; former City Councilmember Michael Zucchet, now with MEA; former City AttorneyMichael Aguirre; and USD economics professor Alan Gin. This interesting evening will be moderated by Scott Lewis, political reporter with the Voice of San Diego. The 6:30-8:30pm meeting should draw quite a crowd, and seats will be limited. Arrive early! As always the monthly meeting will be held in the Joyce Beers Community Center (Vermont Street just north of Cleveland), but because of the large crowd no dinner will be served this month. Note:After 2 hours, cars may be towed from Uptown District’s above ground parking lot.
Co-sponsors of the forum are the Hillcrest Business Association, University Heights CDC & Linda Perine with the GSDBA. DeMaio will be talking about his “Roadmap to Recovery.” Zucchet who now works for the Municipal Employees Association will have a bit different perspective. Aguirre will promote bankruptcy as the best route. And Gin believes there are (of course) many factors to consider in the local economy and we’ll have to see how it turns out… Each panelist will present his views followed by Q&A from the audience. Don’t miss this info-packed evening in Hillcrest.
