“…just wait two more weeks”
Over three years ago (without contacting neighbors or the Hillcrest Business Association) the City placed two concrete k-rails on the SW corner of Tenth & Robinson closing an eastbound lane and forcing vehicles exiting Highway 163 north to bottleneck causing traffic to back up over the bridge…and beyond. The Hillcrest Town Council and several neighbors have been working with the city to fix this problem. The Uptown Planners unanimously voted to remove it, but government representatives keep telling Hillcrest that we need to wait two more weeks for a permit.
Gibran Maciel’s (Representative for Assemblymember Toni Atkins) most recent comment (December 19, 2011): “When we spoke last, the disposition was that (Caltrans) needed 2-3 weeks to get the permit out to the City if everything was in order, which we expected to be the case. I plan on checking in with Caltrans the first week of the new year to make sure that the permit was issued. After that, we will place a call to the City to make sure it is high on their list to actually do it.”
That was the most recent correspondence. However two weeks earlier, on December 1, 2011, Gibran emailed, “I spoke with Caltrans & the City. Long story short, Caltrans is undergoing a two-week review process of the City permit to remove the k-rails. If it goes smoothly, they should allow the City to do it shortly thereafter.” Gary Pence, City of San Diego’s Senior Traffic Engineer, promised their removal last August, stating the permit would take two weeks. Over a year before that…(on 7/10/10) Joe Kocurek representative for Assemblymember Lori Saldana informed the community that, “Cal-Trans responded to (Saldana’s) letter that the problem is a City problem, not a State problem.”
Actually, this is a Hillcrest problem….and we hope it gets resolved in 2012.
