Ole Kittleson and Brian Wells pose with the Starlight Theatre’s historic red box which was used as a prop in their 1946 opening performance. The initial show was such a great success that producer Billy Dean (a man of longstanding theatrical experience and therefore great superstition) decreed that the box must appear on stage in every successive performance. San Diego native Ole Kittleson, one of the founders of the San Diego School of Creative & Performing Arts, has performed in over sixty performances at the popular open air theatre in Balboa Park. Brian Wells has been artistic director for over a decade.
Starlight’s 60th anniversary will celebrated this summer…so keep your eyes open for the red box!!
