I feel we must look to the future, there is a lot of development proposed and underway for the central corridor, from Laurel to Upas including market rate, subsidized and senior housing. We must imagine this area with a lot more people. Shopping, dining, walking and biking. This area is to be transformed in the next decade and we must plan for it. Currently cars rule this area, I live between Fourth and Fifth and to get to Balboa park I must cross seven lanes of traffic, some cars at near highway speeds. If we want this area to develop into a pleasant bridge between Hillcrest and Downtown we cannot continue to let the car be king. Narrowing streets, including bike lanes and planning for more efficient rapid transit is a must.
