San Francisco officials have been overwhelmed at City Hall as couples flood in from around the country to be married in the city by the bay. >>> Love is everywhere this Valentine’s weekend! <<< Factoid: On February 14, 1991 San Francisco became the first city to register same-sex domestic partners. 13 years later it becomes the first city to issue marriage licenses to lesbian and gays couples. (great photos in link) San Diegans rush to SF for wedding bells, too.
“We’re at capacity right now,” said Mabel Teng, the official who oversees marriage licenses for city government. “We normally do about 20-30 couples a day. We’re doing about 50-60 an hour.”
