The San Diego Floral Association is proud to welcome Chicago native John Beaudry as the speaker for their October meeting-program.
John will discuss “Designing the Bungalow Garden: How to Create Gardens and Lives Rooted in Spirit,” a lecture based on his upcoming book of the same title.
The Floral Association’s presentation tomorrow afternoon will begin with a brief history of the Arts & Crafts movement and its quest for the spirit of life, before exploring how to nurture that spirit in our own lives.
Light refreshments will be served. Members and the public are invited to attend this Wednesday afternoon’s gathering in Room 101 of Casa del Prado in Balboa Park. The admission is free.
The gardens of Kate Sessions, Mother of Balboa Park, were greatly influenced by the Arts & Crafts movement. Kate was one of the founders of SD Floral, attending every meeting and sitting in her tall wicker chair. Give Kate credit for the rows of queen palms lining both sides of Sixth Avenue. San Diego Floral Association’s founding triad also included Frank Gifford, well-known for his olives, and begonia expert, Alfred D. Robinson. A bronze plaque honoring Robinson may be found just inside the west door of Balboa Park’s Botanical Building which he designed.
