Led by the Dykes on Bikes (aka Women’s Moto) the2010 Pride Parade was the best produced parade in years as the colorful train traveled through Hillcrest along University and Sixth avenues. A cheering crowd of over 150,000 lined the 1.5 mile route for the 36th annual Gay Pride Parade with over 140 floats and organizations. In addition to the parade, the Gay Pride Festival began yesterday andwill continue today in Balboa Park south of Laurel in Marston Point. Actress Cloris Leachman (left), and activists Cleve Jones and Stuart Milk, Harvey’s nephew, were this year’s grand marshals. Kudos to the parade organizers led by Ben Orgovan for the well-orchestrated line-up (San Diego’s largest civic event).
The two-day festival site on the grassy slopes in glorious Balboa Park continues today. “One World, One Heart, One Pride” headliners include Blake Lewis (4:55pm) and Devo (6pm). Here’s all the entertainment.
