What a week at City Hall as our city leaders spent big bucks for “advice” and the long overdue audit!
The City Council gave thumbs up Monday to allocate an additional $500,000 for the accounting firm KPMG to finish its audit of SD’s 2003 financial statements. The total paid to the firm will now be $2.2 million. Tuesday the council decided to spend an additional $1.2 million on Vinson & Elkins. Their total will now be $4 million. City Attorney Mike Aguirre said yesterday that the company is “basically providing a defense to the mayor and the council. It appears to me that where we are headed is an all-out waste of taxpayer money in order to provide a defense, for conduct that I believe is indefensible,” Aguirre said.

Wednesday feds summoned Mayor Dick, Councilmembers Peters/Atkins & the city manager to a “frank” meeting over the crises.
(Two individuals that the city hired are making $750 and $900 an hour for advice…it must be really good ideas!!)
