Joy Glenner and MissyA collision last Wednesday (March 30) at the corner of Fourth and Pennsylvania sent a car over the curb and into the side of the George G. Glenner Alzheimer’s day-care center, rupturing the building’s gas line, igniting shrubbery and causing an evacuation.

The crash resulted in no injuries but plenty of excitement for the 15 elderly day-care center’s visitors and staff. Luckily, the Glenner’s administration headquarters are located just across the street assisted the evacuees. Additionally, eight nursing-assistant students were there for a disaster training program and helped with the evacuation.

The scenario fit into the daily schedule for the center’s visitors who were taking an exercise class. The evacuees returned to the center two hours later, when city officials declared the building safe. “This Hillcrest corner is quite dangerous,” says CEO, Joy Glenner, left, with Missy, adding that the 23-year-old nonprofit organization has been trying to get a stoplight at the busy intersection for years.
