A 150-foot, 14-story Tower on 5th is being planned to replace several one-story structures, including two 1923 Mission Revival bungalow court buildings and Jean Claude Atelier’s salon on the east side of Fifth at Walnut. Their website says construction for 16 high-end residential units will begin this month at 3445 Fifth Avenue. Surprisingly (or maybe not)…the community is just now learning about it. Perhaps an interim height ordinance is overdue. (It has been endorsed by several organizations including the Hillcrest Town Council, Hillcrest Business Improvement Association, SOHO, Mission Hills BID, the University Heights Community Development Corporation and Mission Hills Heritage).
