Thanks to everyone for making this year’s Hop in the ’hood such a great success! Great bands filled the 3700 block of Seventh Avenue with rockin’ music. The Flower Power Parade featured several fabulous floral floats with “Cowabunga Philly” created by Mike Friedberg and Richard Pereyra taking the grand prize. The extraordinarily talented Laura Jane led the Sunday show as the Hop’s mistress of ceremonies and bands including D.A. and the Hitmen, Danielle Lo Presti and the Masses, Alicia Champion, Rhythm and the Method and the one and only boogie woogie queen Sue Palmer took the stage with Janelle Rock on vocals, Sharon Shufelt on the bass and April West on the trombone. (Yes, she can really play with her toes. Absolutely amazing!) A photo and mini story of this wonderful musician is the lead-in to this year’s “Fun” chapter of HillQuest, an Urban Guide to 92103+.
Tomorrow a slideshow of the Hop & the Flower Power Parade will be posted. Now it’s time to rest…and begin planning next year’s Hop.
