Bluestocking Books owner, Kris Nelson, has been elected president of the Hillcrest Business Association, San Diego’s oldest business alliance.
Kris purchased the Joe Tabler Bookstore (formerly Otento Bookstore) in 1999. “It was an opportunity for me to continue the small, community bookstore tradition and foster independent learning. I think we need places where people can read. We can offer more than the chain bookstores because we have so much more diversity in our new and used books.”
In recognition for her business skills and community service she was selected by the HBA as “Outstanding Business of the Year for 2002.” She is also current President of the San Diego Booksellers Association. “I like the HBA because, as an owner, when we work here, we spend so much time here, and I want to provide a pleasant cultural experience for everyone.”
