Fearing the accounting firm KPMG might quit in anger before finishing San Diego’s long-delayed fiscal 2003 audit (even after being paid $2.8M), Deputy Mayor Toni Atkins used her southern charm and sent the company an apology this week for what she considered rude behavior by our “bad boy” city attorney Mike Aguirre who responded, “Our auditors admitted to engaging in a more than $1 billion fraud on the people of the United States. I think people in most places would be interested in that.”
