What fun we had at the Hop!
Hundreds of fun folks including Councilman Todd Gloria (shown at left with Dave & Clyde Yoshida) and Councilman (and mayoral candidate) Carl DeMaio gathered midblock on Sunday along Seventh Avenue south Robinson for the 9th annual Hop in the ’Hood to celebrate the 2011-12 HillQuest Urban Guide with fabulous live entertainment led by the talented mistress of ceremonies Laura Jane. The unbelievable line-up included: Todo Mundo, the San Diego Women’s Drum Circle, Girls one
Band, Kitten With A Whip (left), Shawn P. Rohlf & Te 7th Day Buskers and The Amanda Waggener Band. Each of the bands was abosolutely extraordinary — thanks for rocking the neighborhood.
This year’s big treat was this 1912 historic Class 1 streetcar that attendees were able to board for the first time since the 1930s. Councilman DeMaio tweeted, “Whatever happened to neighborhood block parties? I was thrilled to attend a great one today in Hillcrest.” A great cake from City Deli (1/2 chocolate, 1/2 carrot) was served at noon and cornhole was played throughout the day. Thanks to everyone with a HUGE shout-out to all the volunteers throughout the day who made the event possible.
More photos (and videos) will be posted on soon — and if you digitally captured special moments at this year’s Hop in the ’Hood, please send them this way!
