SOHO is kicking off the summer season with extended hours Thursday through Monday from 10am-5pm, the Marston House Museum & Gardens has also launched two new tours that have been regularly requested by visitors since the preservation group opened the property less than two years ago: The Marston House Garden Tour and Historic Seventh Avenue. Spend the day or an hour with your choice of three great tours at one of San Diego’s most historic and storied destinations.

The garden tour takes you on a walk through the five-acre estate beginning with the first plantings and landscape plan in 1905 to the 1928 introduction of a formal garden. You will also learn about the grand restoration plans for one of the few remaining arts and crafts canyon landscapes in southern California.

Nestled into Balboa Park’s northwest corner along the 3500 block of Seventh Avenue is one of San Diego’s great neighborhoods. Learn about the architecture, the families who lived in and built the homes, and the connection of all the homes to the fabled George and Anna Marston family. Such notable architects as Irving J. Gill, William S. Hebbard, Frank Mead and Richard Requa have a stunning presence on Seventh Avenue built for San Diego’s leading citizens.

Both are beautiful park excursions that will enhance the visitor’s understanding of San Diego History, the Marston Family’s contributions to San Diego county, and the horticultural and serene paradise that lies hidden just beyond the bustling downtown area.

Guided tours are available on the hour every Saturday and Sunday during the summer season: Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, and run 40-50 minutes. Tours are $10 each or combine tours for substantial discounts; $15 to tour the Marston House Museum and your choice of one additional tour; or $20 to enjoy all 3 tours. Group tours are also available with advanced reservations.
