AIDS Memorial in Bankers Hill moving forward

Background: In his final days in office, former council member Todd Gloria along with Mayor Kevin Faulconer designated funds from the sale of the city-owned Truax House for the creation of an AIDS Memorial.

Additionally, a parcel of land in Bankers Hill, (donated to the city by the Woods & McKee families for a neighborhood pocket park) was earmarked by the council member as the location.

Update: Plans are moving ahead for locating the AIDS Memorial in a small, neighborhood park tucked away in Bankers Hill.

The park is presently designed with no public facilities as it has always been  intended to be a “walk to park” therefore no need for bathrooms or drinking fountains, etc.

Attend the Uptown Planners meeting on Thursday, February 22 in the Great Hall of St. Paul’s Cathedral (Fifth and Nutmeg) at 6pm and voice your opinion. The Uptown Planners will be listening to all opinions regarding location and design and will make their recommendation to the Balboa Park Committee, the final public meeting on this project.

Email your thoughts to Councilmember Chris Ward at christopherward@sandiego.gov and Mayor Kevin Faulconer at kevinfaulconer@sandiego.gov.
