This Thursday, August 2nd, will mark the exact date in 1907 when the “Hillcrest” Company’s tract office was first opened by William Wesley Whitson in what was then known as University Heights, Amy Whitson (William Wesley Whitson’s great great granddaughter) will be cutting a tasty chocolate cake at Fifth & University to celebrate our Hillcrest Centennial. Everyone is welcome to join the party. The noon event will also bring the Hillcrest Centennial Scavenger Quest to a close. The grand prize which includes Starlight Theatre tickets, certificates to local restaurants and three hours with 
the fabulous Laura Jane as your personal DJ, emcee, comedian or songbird for your next party will be awarded Thursday night at the neighborhood potluck & BBQ social. Bring a dish to share. Hamburgers, drinks and tasty treats from local eateries will be provided. Join the fun, meet your neighbors and help us celebrate Hillcrest’s first 100 years at Joyce Beers Community Center in the Uptown District!
Next up will be the Wednesday, August 8th movie under the stars atop Whole Foods Market. The award-winning documentary “March of the Penguins” will begin at 7:45 from their spacious rooftop parking lot — for free! Bring your family, friends, blankets and folding chairs. Then mark yours calendars for the centennial gala at the Prado on Thursday, October 4th.
