Does the name William Wesley Whitson mean anything to you? (WWW’s photo is above the word “website” in our banner.) In the late summer of 1906, Whitson, 20, learned of a land bargain north of downtown and purchased the George Hill estate (40 stoney acres) for a mere $115,000. At the time, this neighborhood was called “University Heights.” Whitson subdivided his parcel and opened a small building at the corner of Fifth & University for his “Hillcrest Tract” office.
The name caught on…and the rest is history.
