2010 will be the last year for the long running Holiday Carnival held by the City Parks & Recreation Department’s Therapeutic Recreation Services. The first carnival was held in 1983 at the old Conference Building (now the Automotive Museum). Over the years, the carnival grew into a large affair with train rides, llama and mini-horse rides, a climbing wall and much more. Due to stricter insurance and liability requirements, they needed to curtail many of their larger attractions, and with December Nights now open during the day on Saturday, the group feels the Holiday Carnival has run its course. Come join them one final carnival Saturday, December 4th at the War Memorial Building!
It promises to be a fun-filled, mid-day event with displays and over 30 activity booths to challenge your skills and luck with lots of prizes to go with it. There will be variety of craft vendors with merchandise for sale. Perfect timing for Christmas giving. If this isn’t enough, there will be wonderful on-going entertainment, lots of delicious food and rides. And, Santa will be flying in from the North Pole just for this event and will be wearing his best smile for some picture taking. Wow! It looks like they have it all. Holiday Carnival & Craft Fair on Saturday, December 4 from 11am-2pm at the War Memorial Building in Balboa Park (just north of the zoo parking lot). Admission is free.
