In just over two weeks Hillcrest Mardi Gras celebrates a decade of spirit and whimsy. On Tuesday, March 8 over three blocks of University Avenue will morph into eccentric wonder from 6–11pm for the street party of the decade. Organized by the GSDBA Foundation and the Hillcrest Business Association, Mardi Gras proceeds again benefit LGBT youth scholarships and neighborhood improvements. Last year nearly 3,000 revelers created a diverse mosaic as the community came together for a fun evening collecting beads, dancing, eating and drinking to excess. (FYI: unfortunately this year’s party will be on the same evening as the monthly meeting for the HBA and the annual election of the Hillcrest Town Council).
With the help of DJ Kimberly S, Wendy Ho, the girls from Lips, the Gogo Dancers and Paris Antonette Queen, Hillcrest’s flare will again launch you into the true spirit of Mardi Gras, a carnival honoring a period of abandonment and merriment preceeding the penance of Lent!
