2007 marks Hillcrest’s first centennial, and celebrations will continue all year long. In 1906 this neighborhood was called “University Heights” along with much of San Diego’s uptown area. William Wesley Whitson purchased and subdivided forty acres north of University Avenue to Lewis Street (between First and Sixth avenues) and opened a “Hillcrest” sales office at Fifth & University on August 2, 1907. This year we’ll be celebrating with FREE birthday cake under the sign! For more information visit Hillcrest History Guild and/or Hillcrest Centennial.
