While San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders jousts at the windmills of the unions, pension board and legal system, the burden of ill-gotten and outrageous city employee pension benefits (benefits that the average taxpayer could only dream of) is carried on the backs of taxpayers, and in the future on the backs of their children. And all the while, city services and infrastructure continue to deteriorate, adding insult to the taxpayers’ burden.
I admire Mayor Sanders, but common sense long ago dictated that the only way out of this corrupt mess is through a judicially supervised reorganization of the city’s finances, as wisely provided by Congress many years ago. To put one’s personal dislike of a judicial reorganization ahead of common sense and the taxpayers’ well-being cannot be morally justified.
