Will SD elect another progressive?

Bob Filner press conference
After decades of GOP rule, on November 4, 2012 San Diego voters selected a progressive Democrat to lead our city. Will they elect another?

After only six months in office, Mayor Filner:

1. Removed surface parking from Plaza de Panama in Balboa Park, spending only $300,000;

2. Removed the pelican crap smell and related problems from the rocks of La Jolla Cove;

3. Opposed a give away of more than $500,000,000 of public money to subsidize a private, for-profit business owned by the Spanos family;

4. Insisted that the hotel owners indemnify city taxpayers from millions in potential liabilities if the courts hold the “Hotel Tax” unlawful allowing thousands of guests file to recover millions paid for this possibly unlawful tax;

5. Negotiated new leases for office space downtown, saving taxpayers several million dollars from reduced rents. Mayor Filner also used the expert services of star broker Jason Hughes, who volunteered his services, saving the city additional millions of dollars in broker’s fees payable over the life of the new leases;

6. Said “NO” to the Jacobs Plan for Balboa Park, thereby saving the Cabrillo Bridge, the National Historical designation of the park, prevented the imposition of PAID parkiing and saved the city from more than $25,000,000 in new debt to pay for a parking garage in the center of the park;

7. Said “NO” to Jack in the Box when they attempted to ignore conditions on their remodeling permit for their North Park restaurant at 30th & Upas;

8. Worked with business owners to keep medical marijuana dispensaries open.

… the list goes on, but we’ll need a progressive Democrat to lead us.

San Diegans must do all we can to ensure our next mayor is committed to the progressive goals of Mayor Bob Filner.

  1. Lori Saldana would make a terrific mayor. Her experience as Speaker Pro Temp of the CA Assembly should stand her in good stead for this. She is right on all of the major issues related to the environment and the economy that affect me, and her integrity is top notch. It took an extra one million and a dirty, unfair mailer in the last few days of the Congressional campaign for Scott Peters to steal the Congressional seat from her. Plus she has been highly successful in two races for her Assembly seat!
