ANOTHER FUN EVENT……WELL DONE!
Thursday, 1/19/12, the 37th Annual Talent Show Auditions “kicked off” to a tremendous turnout. There were 46 contestants signed up with only one no-show. That is pretty good in my book. The talent was diversified with vocal solos, duets, trios, and quartets; several were a combination of vocal and instrumental. There was a variety of dance performances; a Wheelchair Waltz Duet, a Tango Duet, and groups of Tap Dancers and Hula Dancers. There were clever variety acts, interpretive solo song/dance acts, and monologues. All in all, there was something for everybody. You should have been there. It was great fun. I know you will be present at the 37th Annual San Diego’s Got Talent Show, Thursday, 3/15/12, 10:30AM – 2:30 PM, Balboa Park Club. Just $5 for a great show and luncheon. Tickets are on sale now. The judges had there work cut out for them. I am proud to say I was invited to be a judge this year. I joined two prestigious judges in a four hour stretch of judging talent, plus a follow up collaboration session to go over the judging sheets, making certain a well thought out list of winners was rendered…….Then, The Team members at City Park Department Senior Citizen Services, who sponsor this event, took over, to plan all.
INTRODUCING YOUR JUDGES
Chris R
Chris R is no stranger to the Senior Citizens using resources in Balboa Park, as he teaches acting classes, conducts poetry reading sessions, has produced shows, and is seen filming local events, often. Chris has an impressive over 50 year background as an actor, writer, director, producer, and teacher of theatre, film, and video production. He has a BA Degree in directing from the US International University School of Performing Arts, and a Masters Degree from the USC School of Filmmaking for Screenwriting. He founded the San Diego Repertory Theater, among other theatre and production companies. He has won honors at the San Diego Film Festival, at the Houston International Film Festival, and a special award from the BBC, for independent video production. He heads his own R Productions Company, and continues teaching with the City of San Diego.
Dolores St. Louis
Dolores St. Louis (Moi). It is strange to write about myself. It would be stranger to write about myself in 3rd Person. Giving myself too many credits may look vain; yet, I want to give a fair picture. Like Chris, I have had well over 50 years in the field performing, teaching, directing, and producing. I began my career as a runway fashion model in 1950, directed the Wendy Ward Charm School for Montgomery Ward in 5 localities from Chico to Modesto, CA, for 15 years, produced/directed all public relations’ activities (i.e., student graduations, professional and organizational fashion shows). I hold a Lifetime Teaching Credential in Personal Development for Women from SSU. I owned/operated a performing arts center, and talent agencies in Sacramento and Los Angeles. I co-founded Sacramento’s Theatre and Fashion Guilds, co-produced Sacramento Contemporary Musical Theatre, and co-owned Wilder/St Louis Productions. Throughout my career, I produced/directed or judged many Talent Contests and Beauty Pageants.
Melanie Wallace
Melanie Wallace has more than 20 years experience in the Talent and Entertainment Fields. As an actress, she appeared on a Comedy Central Special with Mark Cooper (Hanging with Mr.Hooper). She founded and directed the Ms Semper Fi Program for USMC and Navy. She owned/operated Wallace Management Company, representing actresses, models, and musicians. She has worked with such notables as Cindy Crawford, Dustin Hoffman, Annette Benning, Christina Applegate, and Jay Leno and musicians, Keith Urban and Clay Walker. Currently, she works as a Gerontology Senior Advisor in San Diego.
Kristi Fenick and Lewis Higgins
I cannot close with out giving more credit to San Diego City Park and Recreation Department Senior Citizen Services. These Talent Shows are a monumental task. Besides getting the talent organized, MC’s, back up accompanists, prop and sound men are needed. Here is where those wonderful volunteers come in to assist. And, at the helm, once again, were Kristi Fenick, Supervising Recreational Therapist, and Lewis Higgins, Recreation Specialist.
Let us not forget, these shows are only a portion of the magnitude of activities sponsored by SD City Park and Recreation, assisted by volunteers.
