from Tom Mullaney with Friends of San Diego…
The lawsuit against the “Monster Building” is coming to a culmination. All the legal arguments have been submitted. The court hearing was scheduled for today, June 28, but has been postponed at the court’s request. A news release last week reported that the original developers had sold all or part of their interest to another developer, Laurus. The new developer is apparently redesigning the project, but not lowering the height. Our lawsuit has not been affected. Money is needed. The “Save Hillcrest” group has paid about 75% of the total estimated expenses on the lawsuit project. That’s a big accomplishment for Hillcrest and our little grassroots organization!
We’ve got to raise the other quarter of the funds in the next few weeks. Please consider how you can help: **Pick up some literature at the office (call first). **Call or visit friends, neighbors, associates or local business owners. **Mail a letter to people that you know. I have return envelopes to include. **Make a contribution yourself. **Checks payable to “Friends of San Diego.” One of our hard-working team raised $2,200 by contacting friends and neighbors. She hand-delivered a letter to her neighbors, asked for their contribution and got a good response. You will never know who’s willing to help until you ask! Let’s make the final effort needed to finance this lawsuit and prevent the “Monster Building” from destroying the neighborhood character of central Hillcrest — and creating a precedent for more misplaced high-rises!
